Heating and cooling systems take up a lot of energy in households around the country. Specifically, the average American household has heating and cooling services which take up about 48% of the house’s total energy use. Having an efficient home heating and cooling system is critical if you want to save on your house’s energy consumption and, consequently, your energy bills.

How do you maintain reliable home cooling services? How about reliable home heating services? Here are three tips on how to maintain both efficient home cooling services and heating services:

Get ENERGY STAR Products: One of the best ways to save on energy use is by getting products designed to consume less energy. That is why getting units with ENERGY STAR labels is so useful. Certified ENERGY STAR room air conditioning (A/C) units, for example, use about 10% less energy than conventional models, and ENERGY STAR central A/C units are 15% more efficient.

Change Your Air Filters: Air filters remove all the harmful particles in the air inside your house. A/C and heating units have filters that should be changed at least once every three months but preferably once a month. That way, your units will run more effectively and the air will be cleaner.

Monitor Your Thermostat: Keep your thermostat on a constant temperature so that you do not wear out your systems. During the winter, for example, it’s a good idea to keep your house between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and between 65 and 68 degrees at night. In addition, set your house’s temperature to 60 degrees if you will be away for a long time (such as in a vacation) during the winter months.

Reliable and efficient home cooling systems aren’t hard to come by or maintain. For more information, feel free to leave a comment or question at the bottom.
